Dexter Weaver opened his restaurant in 1986, offering a rotating menu of Southern staples: fried chicken, meatloaf, collard greens, black-eyed peas, cornbread, and candied yams. The food was honest, generous, and deeply rooted in the African American culinary tradition of the American South. But it was Dexter himself who gave the place its singular personality.
Weaver became known around Athens for his exuberant, welcoming manner.
